Extreme conditions Demand a Quality Solution

When the owners of this stunning high country estate looked to highlight the outside of their magnificent brick clad home, the choice of light fixtures was simple.

In this case study we take a break from landscape lighting and look at how Hunza™ lights were employed to light the exterior of the house itself.

The Hunza™ Pillar Lite is used with dramatic effect either side of this doorway. The irregular brick work is accented, producing superb shadow lines. Note how the beam washes the angled soffit emphasizing the architectural features.

Stairs that cannot be illuminated from either side present a challenge to the lighting designer. Occasionally the only option is to position the light fixtures in the stair risers.

The potted plantings are uplit with the Hunza™ Spike Spot Adjustable complete with glareguard emphasizing the slender trunks. The brickwork is downlit using the Hunza™ Wall Down Lite, again accenting the texture of the surface and at the same time pooling sufficient light on the doorstep to provide a safe entry. Both applications use a narrow beam 10 degree lamp.

All Hunza™ fixtures designed for applications on the exterior walls of the building are available in 12 volt and 240 volt options.

The Hunza™ Pillar Light is used to great effect on this rear wall. Mounting at the mid-point maximizes the throw of light in both directions and highlights the architectural apex of the building.

The two seater is framed with sufficient light to provide a relaxing reading spot on a warm summer’s evening.

The Hunza™ NPS Spot with Tree Mount Kit and a wide angled beam is positioned high in the branches of the mature spreading tree, throwing dappled light onto the paving.

To achieve a realistic moonlight effect use either a blue dichroic filter with the standard halogen lamp or a low wattage metal halide light source.

Light fitting selection is critical in this situation to avoid glare. Most Step Lights, even heavily hooded designs are unsuitable for this application.

The Hunza™ Mouse Light is tailor made for these circumstances and designed so that forward throw of light is minimized. This fixture is also a good option where the designer wishes to graze light down a textured wall from an elevated position. This fitting is surface mounted, simplifying installation.

These two images show wide bricked steps lit from both sides by the Tier Light. This fitting is a good choice if a wide spread of ambient light is required and safety and security is more important than drama and effect.
